Desperately Seeking BOOKS

We are looking for books that support the curriculum (books on topics that the teachers are teaching our kids) and fiction books that are age appropriate and interest appropriate for our kids.  Ages 12-18.

Our kids are very interested in anything including historical fiction, mysteries, science fiction, and fantasy. We are also asked for popular teen titles.  We have a select group who are also interested in Manga, or Japanese comic books–they want to learn how to draw in that particular style.  If you find Manga to donate, make sure it is teen appropriate.  Some of it can be quite risque.

I would like to expand our fiction section–these are the books that draw kids into the library!

If you have any questions or have any books to donate, please contact:

WANTED:
SEWING MACHINES

Mrs. Goodrich is putting together a “Textiles” class for the Middle School Intensive program to be held the first week of January during Winterim.  Holding the class is dependent upon her being able to secure 10-12 sewing machines to be used by the students.  She is also in need of parent assistance for 2hrs each day.  She is requesting two parents for each day.  If you are a seamstress, please consider this opportunity.

**If you have a sewing machine the school can borrow during the first
week of January, 2012, please contact her immediately**

I need some financial wizard to help me find money for some badly needed big-ticket items like a piano (or two or three) and acoustic shells (place behind the orchestra and/or choir) to help make the stage a useable performance venue. These items would benefit orchestra, choir AND drama.

Middle School Intensive Science Class

I’d love to have a parent with a strong science background come and help students set up the experiments we’re going to be performing during Middle School Intensive. There will be lots of forensics/genetics experiments (PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.) as well simpler demos as well.

I’d love to have help with the science fair!

We need volunteers to help set up the tables and come judge the projects at our school science fair in late January (exact date TBD). We also need some volunteers to come to the district science fair in early February at UVU and help usher/chaperon students there.

If you can help out with either, or both, of these events, please let me know!

Winterim Extreme Cookin’ Class

I will need a LOT of help with Winterim.  We will be teaching the kids how to cook, and I am looking for parents who have a love for cooking that would like to share some of their knowledge with the kids.  Let me know if you would like to help out and some of your “extreme” ideas.

Proofreading Assistance

I need a parent who has a strong English grammar background who would be willing to help “proofread” papers and track student edits.  This would free up my time to focus on helping students improve the “big picture” issues with their writing (their ideas and organization as opposed to their capitalization and punctuation).

It would be helpful to have a parent (or a couple parents) who could log into a shared gmail account about once a week to look at papers.  Please contact me if you would be interested in helping out:
